WRITING—–SENTENCES, PUNCTUATIONS

★ Verbs, nouns and adjectives
Noun or verb? Is the underlined word a noun or a verb?
Nouns and adjectives: Write a noun for each adjective
Nouns, verbs & adjectives: identify the different parts of speech

★ Articles and determiners
Articles ‘a” and “an”: choose between “a” or “an” in each sentence
A,an & the: choose between “a”, “an” or “the” in each sentence
This, that, these, those: select the right word
Enough, either: select the right word

★ Prepositions
Prepositions and location: look at the picture and choose the right proposition (beside, under …)
Using prepositions: complete the sentences with a preposition

★ Writing sentences for grade 1
Writing sentences: Use the words to write a sentence and draw a picture
Jumbled sentences: Put the words in the correct order
Full sentences or fragments?: Write S for sentence and F for fragment

★ Declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory sentences
Types of sentences: what type of sentence is it?
Changing sentence types: change the statement to a question, etc.

★ Conjunctions

Combining sentences with “and”: Rewrite the 2 sentences as one using “and”
Using conjunctions: select the right conjunction (and, so, but, or) to join the sentences.

★ Punctuation for grade 1
Ending punctuation: complete each sentence with a period, question mark or exclamation mark
Periods, question marks, exclamation marks: Categorize each sentence as a statement, question or exclamation
Writing dates: rewrite the dates using capitals and commas
Using commas: use commas to separate words in a list
