This K-1st grade ELA (English Language Art) curriculum helps K-first graders focus on becoming reading & writing experts while preparing them for the next grade level. Students will learn the foundational reading skills of word recognition, vocabulary, transitional words, paragraph organization, basic comprehension skills, and reading strategies. They will also learn fundamental composition skills such as spelling, capitalization, sentence structures, punctuation, formatting, purposefully shaping, and controlling language, which will prepare them for school tests and exams.

ELA K-G1 total 5 modules, the K advanced -G1 can start from module 2. Each module has 20 lessons.

● Module I – 20 lessons

PHONICS

★ Ending consonants, consonant blends (fl,fr,gr,sl,sp,ch,sk,cl,pr,dr,str,cr,bl, pl)

★ consonant digraph(wh,th,sh,ph,kn,wr,tch,ss).

★ Long vowels, short vowels, vowel blends (oa, ai, ue,oo,ie, ee,ui)

★ phonemes( write words phonetically, unscramble the letters, spell phonetically with digraphs)

VOCABULARY

★ Practice words (animal words, color words, direction words, The five senses words, holiday words, math words, music words, people words, position words, season words, size words, time words)

★ Sight words ( Kindergarten to first grade standardized list)

★ Compound words

★ Synonyms and Antonyms (Kindergarten to first grade standardized list)

★ Plural words ( Kindergarten to first grade standardized list)

★ Homonyms ( Kindergarten to first grade standardized list) READING

★ 12 stories- Fiction story Range (38-84 words)

Module II -20 lessons

READING

★ 24 stories- Fiction, Non-fiction, Poem reading. Range (80-200 words)

★ 12 stories-Historical Reading. Range (70-200 words)

★ 45 stories- Specific comprehension skill reading-

★ Compare and contrast: recognize when things are “alike” or “different”

★ Main ideas: what is the picture or story mostly about?

★ Sequencing: put the events in order

★ Story elements: introducing character, setting, plot and endings

★ Drawing conclusions: practice “figuring things out yourself”

★ Cause and effect: linking cause and effect

★ Fact vs fiction: recognizing the difference between reality and fantasy

★ Prediction: guessing what will come next

About the teacher

Hello! My name is Miss Stella, and I’m so excited to meet you here and help you gain confidence in reading and writing.
I hold an English Bachelor degree and a Master of Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This is my 9th year of teaching English Language Arts.
I’m teaching 1st to 3rd graders in an elementary school right now, and I have worked as a high school ELA teacher before that.  My teaching philosophy is to see to every student’s unique needs and demands. I like to use a wide range of formative and summative class activities to closely monitor students’ growth. I am absolutely in love with what I do and I genuinely look forward to helping you in any way I could.
