School Library

Mila,Age 7

As I walk in, I am greeted by the sounds of keyboard tapping and people chatting and arguing. This spot has two names: the school library and the student lounge. It’s a place where kids go to play video games on their Chromebooks or to just sit on a minicouch and chill. The school designated it for doing homework, but the students had other ideas. It’s ironic for it to be called a library, since it contains no books. The walls and furniture are a palette of whites, grays and blues, which initially give me a feeling of calm. I sit down on a minicouch and open up my Chromebook to do homework. After about five minutes of trying to focus, I am overwhelmed by the cussing gamers and the arguing kids and teachers. The place feels like a boiler room. I close up my Chromebook and walk out the way I came in.The walls and furniture are a palette of whites, grays and blues, which initially give me a feeling of calm.
