Place Value : Digits, ones, tens, hundreds, breaking and regrouping, adding and subtracting 1, 10, or 100.
Comparing : The number line, distance, consecutive numbers, using < and >, ordering numbers.
Addition : Sums, place value strategies, counting up, adding and taking away, doubles, making 10’s and 100’s, friendly sums.

2B

20 Lessons

Subtraction : Place value strategies, using addition, finding a difference, counting up, subtracting then adding, subtracting all at once, and subtracting in parts.
Expressions : Evaluating expressions, using parentheses, working with symbols, simplifying, and solving equations.
Problem Solving : Guessing and checking, working backwards, drawing a picture, finding useful information.

2C

20 Lessons

Measurement : The measurement chapter focuses on length and includes using a ruler, estimation, customary and metric units, conversions, mixed measures, and adding and subtracting measurements.
Strategies (+&−) : Rearranging addition and subtraction, canceling, subtracting everything at once, using parentheses, and skip-counting.
Odds & Evens : Odds and evens, doubling, halving, addition and subtraction patterns, working with more than two numbers, and puzzles involving crossings, coins, checkerboards, and graphs.

2D

20 Lessons

Big Numbers : Thousands, millions and larger place values. Reading, writing, adding, subtracting, comparing, and estimating with big numbers.
Algorithms (+ & -): Stacking addition with regrouping, adding more than two numbers at a time, stacking subtraction with breaking, and solving cryptarithms.
Problem Solving : Staying organized, finding and using patterns, solving simpler problems, eliminating choices, and using manipulatives.

3A

20 Lessons

Shapes: Angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, other polygons, puzzles with polyominoes.
Skip-Counting: Patterns with repeated addition, arithmetic sequences, foundations for understanding multiplication, distribution, and factoring.
Perimeter and Area: Perimeter and area of rectangles, polygons, and rectilinear shapes.

3B

20 Lessons

Multiplication: The times table, the commutative and associative properties, multiplying numbers that end in one or more zeroes.
Perfect Squares: Squaring a number that ends in 5, finding the next perfect square, multiplying nearby numbers using perfect squares.
The Distributive Property: Order of operations, area models of the distributive property, multiplying multi-digit numbers.

3C

20 Lessons

Variables: Writing expressions and equations, evaluating expressions, solving equations.
Division: Equal sharing, relating multiplication and division, finding a quotient and remainder.
Measurement: Length, weight, volume, temperature, money, and time. Metric and customary units.

3D

20 Lessons

Fractions: Unit fractions, fractions on the number line, mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, parts of a whole, comparing and ordering fractions, simplifying fractions.
Estimation: Rounding, computing estimates, over and underestimating, eyeball estimates, Fermi problems.
Area: Square units, adding and subtracting areas, tangrams, triangle area, unit conversions.

4A

20 Lessons

Shapes: Definitions, angle measurement, parallel and perpendicular lines, symmetry.
Multiplication: The distributive property, multi-digit multiplication, using algorithms, the units digit.
Exponents: Computing powers, order of operations, perfect squares, binary notation (base-2).

Counting : Counting lists, choices, Venn diagrams, Factorials, counting pairs.
Division : Special quotients, dividing multiples of powers of 10, long division, divisibility.
Logic : Logic puzzles, grid puzzles, liars and truth-tellers.

Factors : Primes, divisibility, prime factorization, factor trees.
Fractions : Adding, subtracting, and converting fractions and mixed numbers.
Integers : Understanding negatives. Adding and subtracting positive and negative integers.

Fractions : Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers and division by unit fractions. 

Decimals : Place value, converting between fractions and decimals, comparing and ordering decimals. 
Probability : Counting strategies review, coins, dice, random events, and geometric probability.

3D Solids : Classifying solids, nets, surface area, and volume.
Integers : Multiplication, long products, division, exponents, and opposites (negation).
Expressions & Equations : Notation, like terms, simplifying expressions, and solving multi-step equations.

Statistics : Median, average (mean), weighted averages, range, and mode.
Factors & Multiples : Factors, greatest common factor (gcf), least common multiple (lcm), factorials.
Fractions : Addition and subtraction (with unlike denominators), multiplication, cancelling, division.

Sequences : Patterns, finding terms, arithmetic sequences, and triangular numbers.
Ratios & Rates : Ratios, proportions, speed, rates, and unit conversions.
Decimals : Powers of 10, multiplication, division, and converting between fractions and decimals.

Percents : Converting among fractions, decimals, and percents, estimation, proportions, and percent change.
Square Roots : Estimation, comparison, and the Pythagorean theorem.
Exponents : Multiplying and dividing powers, negative exponents, scientific notation, raising a power to a power, and solving equations.
