Ustar Biology Research Project
Project 1: Hydroponics
Plants provide us with oxygen to breath, food to eat, materials to make clothing and paper, as well as beautiful flowers and leaves to admire. Most of us know plants need light, air, water and soil to grow. But you can grow plants without soil by using a process called hydroponics. How does it work? Come and join this exciting project and see for yourself !
Program Introduction:
– This program (Biology Research Project) aims at G3+ students interested in biological research.
– Mentored by a biological scientist, students will learn how to use scientific methods to do research. Students will have an experimental interaction with nature, become familiar with scientific methods, become aware of the ethics of reporting accurate and reliable data.
– This program helps students develop intellectually and emotionally by increasing their knowledge and skills as well as encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving and self-management.
– Students have the opportunity to present their completed projects in public, enhance their public speaking and presentation skills.
Two options for students to choose: Option A / Option B
– Option A (Ideal option for research): The student will work 1-on-1 with the mentor scientist, all the results of the research will be 100% credited to this student, and will be presented by this student alone. The poster presentation will have only one author. It works best for the student in his or her resume.
– Option B (less expensive option): Two students will share the project and work together with the mentor scientist, they will share the results, share the presentation of the results.
* Each student needs to bring his or her notebook, pens (two colors: blue and red), a pencil, a ruler, a simple calculator, and a folder to keep all the hand-out material.
