Course Description
Students will be able to develop various writing and reading skills developed with the advanced student in mind such as Argumentative writing, Informative writing, Narrative writing, Response to text and the Research Paper.
What you’ll learn?
- Students will be able to develop various writing and reading skills developed with the advanced student in mind such as Argumentative writing , writing claims, opposing claims, logical reasoning, keeping an academic tone.
- Informative writing (introduce topic clearly, organize ideas, concepts and information utilizing graphics and multimedia.
- Narrative writing (introducing the narrator, sequence of events, plot, suspense, dialogue, pacing, conclusion.)
- Response to text (analyzing and writing about poetry and literature.).
- Research Paper (choosing a controversial topic, finding credible evidence, MLA citation and intext citation with work cited page.)
Target Students:
7-8th graders
Class Activities:
We will each write a story (most -narrative), writing a bit of the story each class.
Step 1 – post at least 1 page of story at least 24 hours before class begins
Step 2 – everyone read each other’s papers, and make “comments” on them if you see something taht can be improved
Step 3 – during class, we will go through those things together
About the teacher
Mr Ray , 7 years of teaching experience, worked at local middle school as an English Language Arts Teacher . He taught 6th-12th grade students reading and writing for literature and informational texts. His teaching philosophy is to see to every student’s unique needs and demands. He like to use wide range of formative and summative class activities to closely monitor students’ growth. In 2017-2018, he worked with 22% on-grade-level students at the beginning of the school year. By the end of the year, the End Of Grade Exam data have shown that 64% of his students have achieved on/above Grade level.
