Ustar Spring Featured STEM Program——AI Explorer

Ages 7-9 |Foundation Programming & Engineering Transition

This exciting course introduces young learners to the magical world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). You’ll discover how AI helps power cool technologies like self-driving cars, recommendation systems, and even AI-generated music.

The course also introduces students to key AI models, such as Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, Decision Trees, Linear Regression, and Natural Language Processing. Through simple explanations and fun examples, students will gain an understanding of how these models work and how they are applied to solve real-world problems.

Using the colorful and fun Scratch programming language, you’ll bring your ideas to life with two amazing projects: one where you’ll analyze emotions in text (happy or sad) and another where you’ll create a speech-to-text translator for a fun alien language.

With hands-on activities and creative projects, this course will spark your curiosity, teach you how to think like an AI scientist, and get you ready to explore the endless possibilities of AI. Let’s learn, create, and have fun together with AI Explorer !

📘AI Explorer Course Content Overview

🧠 What Is This Course?

AI Explorer is an introductory Artificial Intelligence course designed for young learners.

Instead of memorizing AI terms, students learn through
visual programming + real AI applications, helping them understand for the first time:

How AI “thinks,” learns, and makes decisions.

Using Scratch-based programming, students will build real AI-powered projects, such as:

  • An AI that can recognize emotions in text

  • A speech-to-text “translator” for a fun alien language

👉 This course marks a child’s first step from basic coding toward AI thinking.

🛠️ What Core Skills Will Students Learn?

1️⃣ AI Foundations (Understanding, Not Memorizing)

Students are introduced—at an age-appropriate level—to key AI ideas, including:

  • Neural Networks

  • Reinforcement Learning (how AI learns from feedback)

  • Decision Trees (how AI makes choices)

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) (how AI understands text and speech)

💡 The focus is not formulas, but questions like:
Why can AI make this judgment? What is it based on?

2️⃣ Programming × AI Application Skills

Using Scratch visual programming, students will:

  • Apply AI models instead of only hearing about them

  • Learn how to break ideas into logical steps

  • Build programs that perform real functions

📌 Sample Projects:

  • Text emotion analysis (Happy vs. Sad)

  • Speech-to-text translation system

3️⃣ Engineering Thinking & Logical Expression

Students gradually develop:

  • Problem decomposition: What should this AI do?

  • Process design: Input → Processing → Output

  • Debugging & improvement: Why didn’t this work? How can it be better?

✨ Many students reach a key milestone here:
They can clearly explain why they designed their solution a certain way.

👦👧 Who Is This Course Best For?

✅ Especially Suitable For:

  • Children ages 7–9

  • Students curious about AI, coding, and technology

  • Children who have learned Scratch or basic coding and want to go further

  • Kids who enjoy thinking, asking questions, and exploring future technologies

✅ Also Ideal For Families Who:

  • Don’t want STEM learning to stay at the “just for fun” level

  • Hope to guide their child toward an AI or engineering pathway over time

❌ Not Ideal For:

  • Children who prefer passive play and avoid thinking challenges

  • Students not yet ready to engage with logic or structured problem-solving

🎯 Where AI Explorer Fits in the STEM Pathway

AI Explorer = AI Foundation + Critical Transition Course

It helps students:

  • Move from basic coding to AI thinking

  • Prepare cognitively for Python, Robotics, and Engineering courses

  • Develop a correct understanding of AI as something designed—not magic or automation

📌 One-Sentence Summary for Parents

This is not a “play-with-AI” class.
It is the first course where children truly understand how AI works.
