Fantastic Mr. Fox

In this fun class, students will read and discuss the Roald Dahl novel Fantastic Mr. Fox. This novel tells the tale of the three meanest farmers around and their encounter with the clever Mr. Fox! Will they put an end to Mr. Fox and his thievery, or will Mr. Fox hatch a fantastic plan to save himself and his family? Find out in this fun and exciting Novel Study!

Fantastic Mr. Fox

This class will be structured as follows:

Day 1: The book will be introduced. Students will Meet the Author. We will begin the novel in a classroom read aloud. We will read chapters 1-3 together in class. Students will be assigned chapters 4-6 to read for homework.

Day 2: We will review and discuss chapters 1-6. We will practice comprehension, prediction, and summarizing. We will read chapters 8-10 in class. Students will be assigned chapters 11-13 to read for homework.

Day 3:  We will review and discuss chapters 11-13. We will practice comprehension, prediction, and summarizing. We will read chapters 14-16 in class. Students will answer questions about the book in a short review.

Day 4: We will review and discuss chapters 17-18. We will practice comprehension, prediction, and summarizing. For homework, students will complete a book project.

Day 5: Students will present their final project to the class in oral book report style showing their completed final project.

Learning Goals:

Students will read and discuss the Roald Dahl book Fantastic Mr. Fox while practicing the skills of comprehension, summarizing, and prediction.

 

Homework:

Students will be assigned weekly reading pages. Also, they will need to complete the final project outside of class.
