Lesson Plan

Throughout the 15 lessons, we will be writing  a short story / novel / narrative / creative piece of literature. We will take time to address different elements of writing during each lesson. There may also be “short story” activities and SAT grammar practice exercises. Most of these lesson standards are a subset of this objective –  

W.9-10.3 -Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

Lesson 1: Use digital tools and resources to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products in response to ongoing feedback, including new arguments or information.

Lesson 2:Organize information and ideas around a topic to plan and prepare to write.

Lesson 3: Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point(s) of view and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.

Lesson 10: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description, reflection, and multiple plot lines, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters..

Lesson 12: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including words with multiple meanings or language that is particularly engaging.

Lesson 13: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking; demonstrate proficiency within the 9-12 grammar continuum.  

Lesson 14:  Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on what is experienced, observed, or resolved over the course of the narrative.
