Course Introduction

All lessons in this thematic unit will include: Warm-up Question, Guided Reading, Vocabulary, Activity, and Assessment. Youtube, Brain Pop, Quizziz and other platforms will be utilized to bring the students an interactive experience that assists them with the process of building English language skills while learning about the history that built the nation and gave us the rights we have today.

GEOGRAPHY

Unit 1- The seven continents. This lesson is the first in a series of lessons that introduce children to the Seven Continents

Unit 2 – The  5 Oceans. To begin to recognize  the oceans.

Unit 3- Different types of landforms. The students will learn about the four major landforms mountains, hills, plateaus, and plains. Also, the oceans, lakes, rivers, and ponds.

Unit 4- The 3 types of communities. There are three types of communities: -Rural community -Suburb community -Urban community develops an awareness of the three types of communities: -Rural community -Suburb community -Urban community.

Unit 5- Maps and globes. The student develops an awareness of simple geographic tools such as maps, globes, and photographs.

Social Studies/History

Unit 1-Rules and Laws- During this lesson students will why rules and laws are important.

Unit 2- Holiday Celebrations of Cultures and Countries . Students will learn about ways some holidays are celebrated in selected cultures from around the world. They will compare and contrast U.S. holiday celebrations to those in other countries.

Unit3 – The First Thanksgiving – Students will expand their knowledge of the history of this American holiday. They will discuss reasons the pilgrims came to America and what life was like for them in a new land.

Unit4- Communities and Needs -Students will learn about the types of shelter, food and clothing used by people in different communities.

Unit5- American Symbols-  Students will expand their knowledge of important buildings, statues and monuments associated with American history.

About the Teacher

Mr. Josh loves to give students the opportunities and resources to help them grow. He enjoys a fun and lively classroom setting in which he typically focuses on critical thinking analysis, discussion, and the expansion of vocabulary understanding and usage.
